Emily McIntyre is a native of Vancouver, Canada. She began her bassoon studies with John Gaudette of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and in 1998 graduated from the Langley Fine Arts School in Music Performance.  As a student she performed with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, and with the Vancouver Academy of Music.

In 2003 Emily earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia (UBC) School of Music studying with Christopher Millard and Jesse Read, and in 2005 she was awarded the Diplome en Études Supérieures Scholaires with top marks from the University of Montréal studying with Martin Mangrum (Montreal Symphony Orchestra / Real Orquesta Sinfonica de Sevilla / Orquesta Sinfonica de Barcelona).

Emily has played in Canada as Principal Bassoonist of the National Academy Orchestra, with the Vancouver Contemporary Players, the Montreal Wind Quintet, and with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. She plays often with the Orquestra do Algarve, and is currently Principal Bassoonist with the Alma Ensemble in Portugal, where she resides.
